What is canthal tilt?

Canthal tilt is the angle between the inner canthus and outer canthus relative to horizontal. A positive tilt (outer corner higher) is often nicknamed “hunter eyes”; negative is the reverse; near-flat is neutral. It is a measurable anatomical trait — not a medical diagnosis.

How to use this free canthal tilt calculator

  1. Upload a clear, front-facing selfie (keep your head level).
  2. The tool runs a 478-point face mesh on-device and locates both eye corners.
  3. Get your average tilt in degrees plus a positive / neutral / negative label.

Positive vs negative vs neutral canthal tilt

This calculator labels roughly above +1.5° as positive (“hunter eyes”), below −1.5° as negative, and the band in between as neutral. The buffer around zero avoids category flip from sub-pixel noise. For a deeper comparison, read our positive vs negative canthal tilt guide.

How the measurement works (on-device mesh)

FaceRated finds inner/outer corner landmarks for each eye in your browser, computes the angle with arctangent against horizontal, and averages left and right. The same photo is reproducible; different camera angles can shift the reading slightly.

Frequently asked questions

What is a canthal tilt calculator?

A canthal tilt calculator measures the angle between your inner and outer eye corners relative to horizontal. FaceRated does this from a photo with a 478-point face mesh, entirely on your device.

What is a positive canthal tilt (hunter eyes)?

A positive canthal tilt means the outer corner sits higher than the inner corner — often called “hunter eyes.” This tool labels roughly above +1.5° as positive.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Measurement runs in your browser. Your selfie is not sent to a server for the free canthal tilt test.

How accurate is the canthal tilt measurement?

Results are landmark-consistent for the same photo. Head tilt, camera angle and resolution can shift the reading a little — use a front-facing, level photo for the steadiest number.
