What Is the Looksmaxxing Scale?
The looksmaxxing scale is the tier framework communities use to talk about faces and bodies: sub-3, normie, HTN, chadlite, chad, gigachad. It is slang, not a clinical diagnosis. This page maps a repeatable geometry composite (symmetry, golden-ratio proximity, jawline, canthal tilt) onto those tiers so you can track your own change with one stable ruler instead of comparing absolute scores across sites.
The PSL / Looksmaxxing Tier Chart
The table below sets out each tier’s score band, its rough share of the population and its typical traits. The percentages are approximate figures quoted in these communities, not official statistics.
| Tier | Score range | Population share | Typical traits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sub-3 | 0–35 | ~10% | Below-average facial harmony. Highest ROI is body fat, skin, haircut and teeth — not surgery. |
| Normie | 36–55 | ~55% | Solid average. Grooming, fitness and styling move you fastest here. |
| High-Tier Normie (HTN) | 56–65 | ~20% | Top of the average band: good harmony, one feature often carries the face. |
| Chadlite | 66–78 | ~10% | Clearly above average structure. Eyes, jawline and grooming are the fine-tuning levers. |
| Chad | 79–90 | ~4% | Strong geometry across the board. Maintenance beats drastic procedures. |
| Gigachad | 91–100 | <1% | Meme-tier top label. In practice it marks near-ideal harmony — no real face is "perfect". |
Chadlite vs Chad vs High-Tier Normie
These three are the most confused. HTN (High-Tier Normie, ~56–65) is the top of the average band: good harmony, usually reachable through grooming, hair and fitness. Chadlite (~66–78) has clearly above-average structure and at least one standout feature (defined jaw, positive canthal tilt or strong cheekbones), with everything else above average. Chad (~79–90) is strong across the board with no weak link. The borders are not hard lines: the same person can swing several points between different lighting, angle and camera distance.
How the Chad O Meter Works
The Chad O Meter is the community nickname for a face-rating scan. Upload a front-facing selfie in the scanner above: FaceRated runs a 478-point mesh in your browser, measures symmetry, golden-ratio match, jawline and canthal tilt, blends them into a 0–100 composite, then reads the tier off the chart above. Your photo is not uploaded to a server; the free tier shows your tier plus four core scores.
Glossary
- sub-3 / sub 3
- Looksmaxxing slang for someone whose face scores below average on a 1–10 community scale — roughly a 0–35 on FaceRated’s 0–100 composite.
- sub5
- Shorthand for "below 5/10" on the community 1–10 scale; overlaps with sub-3 but is a milder band, roughly the lower half of the Normie range.
- HTN (High-Tier Normie)
- A well-groomed, above-average person who is not yet Chadlite — the top of the average band.
- chadlite
- Above-average structure with at least one standout feature; the step below Chad.
- chad
- Top-tier harmony on the community scale, roughly the top 4% in looksmaxxing discussions.
- PSL scale
- A community rating framework (named after a looksmaxxing forum) that grades faces on tiers rather than clinical measurements. Not a scientific instrument.
- mogging
- Community verb for out-attracting someone in a side-by-side comparison; a vibe judgement, not a measurable score.

Frequently asked questions
What is a chadlite face?
In looksmaxxing slang, a chadlite face is clearly above average but a step below Chad: strong harmony with at least one standout feature. On FaceRated’s 0–100 geometry composite it maps to roughly 66–78.
How does the Chad O Meter work?
The Chad O Meter is the community name for a face-rating scan. FaceRated runs a 478-point mesh on-device and blends symmetry, golden-ratio proximity, jawline and canthal tilt into one 0–100 score, then places you on the tier ladder above.
What is the PSL scale?
The PSL scale is an informal community tier framework for rating faces (sub-3 up to Gigachad). It is slang, not a scientific measurement — different sites use different maths, so compare your own before/after, not absolute scores across tools.
What does sub-3 or sub 3 human mean?
Sub-3 (also written sub 3) is looksmaxxing shorthand for a face below average on the community 1–10 scale — about 0–35 on FaceRated’s 0–100 composite. It is a label, not a diagnosis.
Is the looksmaxxing scale free to use?
Yes. The free scan gives your tier and four core metrics with no sign-up. The optional paid Face Report adds 40+ measurements and a 3D mesh.
