Midface Ratio Calculator
Divide midface height by inner-canthal distance to see whether your midface is compact, average or long.
Measure both on the same photo in the same unit (mm or pixels).
Enter both values to see your midface ratio.
How is the midface ratio calculated?
Midface ratio = midface height ÷ inner-canthal distance. Midface height is the vertical distance from the pupil line down to the top of the upper lip; inner-canthal distance is the horizontal gap between the two inner eye corners. Measure both on the same front-facing photo and the ratio becomes independent of image size.
What is an ideal midface ratio?
The commonly cited ideal window is 0.90–1.05, with the population average landing around 1.0–1.10. Below 0.90 is very compact and above 1.20 reads as clearly elongated. Worth being clear: these bands come from aesthetic convention and sample statistics, not a medical standard — the ratio says nothing about health or worth.
Can a long midface be changed?
True midface length is set by the vertical height of the maxilla, and no non-surgical method shortens it. What can change is how it reads: cheek volume adds forward projection so the midface looks shorter, a lip lift shortens the nose-base-to-lip distance, and tongue posture plus nasal breathing matter for teenagers still growing but not for adults whose bone is set. Treat any claim about shortening an adult midface in weeks as false.
